GWK (GARUDA WIANU KENCANA)

Garuda Wisnu Kencana, nampaknya merupakan mega proyek terbesar di Bali yang sedang dibangun. Betapa tidak, rencana pembangunan patung setinggi 146 meter dengan lebar bentangan sayap garuda sebesar 66 meter itu diperkirakan memiliki berat 4000 tons. Dibuat dengan menggunakan bahan berupa campuran tembaga dan kuningan yang pada bagian tertentu akan dilapisi dengan mozaik emas. Saat ini sebagian dari patung tersebut sudah bisa dilihat di lokasi dalam bentuk patung separuh badan dari dewa Wisnu dan bagian kepala burung garuda.
Sewaktu saya berkunjung kelokasi ini, sempat terperangah juga melihat ukuran kepala burung garuda yang benar-benar raksasa. Sulit membayangkan bentuk burung garuda ini nantinya secara keseluruhan, yang pasti akan sangat besar sekali. Ukuran tubuh manusia dewasa aja, nampaknya masih kalah besar/tinggi dibandingkan ukuran kuping dari burung garuda ini. Agak aneh memang melihat burung yang mempunyai telinga, namun semua adalah memungkinkan didunia pewayangan.
Pembangunan patung berupa Dewa Wisnu (Dewa penyelamat bagi umat Hindu) yang sedang mengendarai burung mitos, Garuda, terinspirasi dari kisah Adi Parwa dalam episode Garuda dengan kesetiaan dan pengorbanannya menyelamatkan ibunya dari belenggu perbudakan dengan mengabdi kepada Dewa Wisnu menjadi kendaraannya. Kisah mengenai legenda ini terpahat jelas di sisi-sisi Candi Kidal yang berada di kabupaten Malang.
Patung Garuda Wisnu Kencana diharapkan akan merangsang dinamika nilai phisik dan spiritual, serta keseimbangan antara skala dan niskala (dunia nyata dan tidak nyata) dengan demikian harmonisasi alam dapat tercipta. Patung Garuda Wisnu Kencana adalah symbol misi penyelamatan lingkungan dan penyelamatan dunia.
Sayang sekali patung karya seniman bali bernama Nyoman Nuarta ini dalam tahap pembangunannya sudah meleset dari target yang dietetapkan. Rencana awal seluruh bagian patung ini akan selesai pada tahun 2005, namun hingga saat ini proyek ini masih jauh dari harapan.

Nusa Lembongan is situated 12 miles south east of Bali. It is one hour traveling time by boat from Benoa Harbour. This pear shaped island is around 4km long and 2km wide.
